Beaton, Bernard

Sgt. Bernard “Bernie” Edward Beaton, Flight Sergeant RCAF, Photo Technician – Energy, Mines & Resources. Service number, 25144. Born, JULY 17th, 1925.

Trained at the School of Photography, CFB Rockliffe, in Ottawa.

An ‘Airmen’s Mess Card’ was issued to Beaton in February, 1944, where ‘Bernie’ was posted at the RCAF Station in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, at the early age of just 19years old.

A ‘Liberty Pass’ for B.E. Beaton, indicates that Cpl. Beaton had attended the Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit in Pensacola, Florida, USA, in July of 1951.

From the many photographs in the collection, it appears that Sgt. Beaton had a successful career as an RCAF photographer. Some of the people in the photos have been further identified by colleague George Nitchsky who knew ‘Bernie Beaton’.

Further research revealed an obituary was posted in the Ottawa Citizen, September 3rd, 2013. “BEATON, Bernard Edward died on Saturday, August 31st, 2013 at the age of 88.”
